Stitch Fix Box #3 - October 2015

It's Stitch Fix time again!  I really am having a ton of fun with this service.  It's making me take a long hard look at clothes.  My closet has shrunk dramatically despite having a bunch of new clothes.  When I decide if I want (or want to keep) an article of clothing, I ask myself a couple of questions:

1. Does it fit PROPERLY?   Items that are too snug, too big or otherwise ill fitting have no home in my closet.
2. Does it serve a purpose?  Any item that can't be worn with multiple other pieces is taking up too much room.  I no longer keep that blouse that looks good with that one single skirt.
3. Does it make me feel fabulous?  No?  Bye-bye!
4. Is it trendy or classic?  An ultra trendy piece that will go out of style before I can wear it more than twice is not something I want around.  I am building a collection of classic styles that can stick around for multiple seasons.

If you are curious about Stitch Fix check out this link right here and feel free to post comments below.  I am always happy to share my SF experiences.

I know, I know, you are here for the pictures...

You may remember that last month Jen absolutely nailed what I am looking for so I requested that she do my October fix as well. Congrats Jen, you are a keeper!  :)  This was her note to me.  I love that she takes the time to read my blog and check out my Pinterest board. (Hi Jen!!)  I know it's part of the stylist's job, but I think it's a great idea!  I'm sure it is much easier to choose clothing for people that you know something about than it is for someone that you have no idea who they are or what kind of personality they have.

RD Style Skipper Cocoon Cardigan

I am sure you can tell from the photos that this cardigan is super soft.  And POCKETS!   It is exceedingly comfortable, but something about it just did not work for me.  It felt too casual.  I am looking for something a little more structured.   Mind you, it would be a fabulous piece for schlubbing around the house while drinking hot chocolate and watching movies in December. It's like a wubby you can wear and that totally is NOT a bad thing, but it just isn't something I am looking for right now.  So, even though it is comfy, I won't be keeping it.

41Hawthorn Filbert 3/4 Sleeve Popover Blouse

This blouse is the epitome of Stitch Fix.  When I saw I was getting it, I wanted to hate it.  (yes, of course I peeked!  You really can't expect me to wait until the box gets here to find out what is in it!)  It's so anti what I picture myself wearing. Plus, I have received very similar blouses in both of my previous boxes.  I hated one and loved the other.  The one I loved was because it was very sheer and thin and had a fun print (and has since been returned because of an issue with the studs coming off) Anyway, I didn't WANT to like this.  When I put it on, I didn't like it.  When I took it off, I didn't like it.  When I put it back on again, I still didn't like it.  Then Dan walked in.  He looked at me and said "I like that! It looks nice."  *sigh*   When your husband (who normally doesn't even speak a word about clothes ever) makes a comment about something you are wearing, you sort of have to listen.  So now, I guess the more I look at it, I actually do like it.  It looks nice with jeans, it looks nice with dress pants and damn it, it looks nice with the stupid black and white skirt that I requested a shirt to wear with.  Curse you, Jen.  You sent me a piece that I have a love/hate relationship with.

Market & Spruce Aleah Heathered V-Neck Dolman Top

And this is another Stitch Fix epitome piece.  I wanted to love it.  I had it pinned.  The color, as Jen mentioned in her note, is fabulous for someone with red hair, green eyes and pasty white skin.  But alas, even though almost every single other person that I have ever heard about getting this top absolutely loved it, it just does NOT work for me.  It made me feel fat and frumpy.   It was fitted in the exact spot that I hate most -- the lower part of my abdomen.  Anything that clings there creates an unflattering look (at least when you are not several months pregnant, lol)  It just goes to show, ALWAYS try everything on when you get a box.  The one I hated, I now love and the one that I really wanted, is a piece that I can't wait to send back!

Margaret M Emer Houndstooth Straight Leg Pant

A few weeks ago, I bought a pair of Emers off the Facebook Stitch Fix Buy/Sell/Trade group.  When they arrived, I really couldn't figure out why people were going completely bonkers for these pants.  I mean, the cut was flattering, but the material wasn't as soft as I expected it to be (based on reviews from others) and the length was weird on me.  So when I saw that Jen was sending me a pair of Emers, I was sorta ambivalent about it.  Once they arrived, my tune changed quickly.  THESE ARE MAGIC PANTS! They have enough structure to be great dressy pants, but they have the perfect amount of stretch to feel like those dressy pants are leggings!  So comfortable, no zippers or buttons and mid/high rise enough to not even come close to creating a muffin top.  The houndstooth pattern is very subtle.  I adore these pants and am positive I will wear them all the time (as you may be able to tell since I have them on in several of the above photos!)When it comes to Emers, apparently each style is different, or the ones I got were.  Just remember that if you request some - judge each pair individually!

Level 99 Briley Skinny Jeans

I love, love, love these jeans!  HOW DO THEY DO IT?!  Women struggle to find jeans on their own, yet it seems that Stitch Fix has this magical warehouse that contains jeans for every single one of their customers?!  I just don't get it.  Regardless, I am happy they found a way!  These babies are perfect.  The length works, the wash is great, they fit like a glove and they are comfortable.  They are fitted, but they are not so tight that I can't walk, sit or eat.  They are the tiniest bit stretchy and that makes all the difference.  Oh and they do amazing things for my ghetto booty!  If every single other piece of clothing sent out by Stitch Fix sucked, I would still keep my sub for denim alone.

So, there you have it!  It's a 3/5 box.  Jen, you are a kick ass stylist, but my wallet my not be able to afford you for very long!  You are TOO good.  I may have to adjust my price points next box!   ;) If you are interested in trying out Stitch Fix I would love you forever if you would use the links that I provide in this blog.  They are referral links and when you order your first box, Stitch Fix will credit my account $25 as a thank you for giving them free advertising.  It doesn't cost you anything extra and once you establish an account, you will also get a referral link to share with your friends!   xoxo

  1. Nice! I like the subtle pattern on the pants! :) I agree with you about the effect that husband comments can have on clothing choices! It's pretty hard to send something back if my husband says it looks great!

It IS amazing that I can go to a store and try on 20 pairs of pants and find nothing, but Stitch Fix can send pants that almost always fit (or at least kind of fit). I don't know how they do it!
